Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy is proud to announce the establishment of the Kenneth L Schorr Sustainable Projects Fund in honor of Ken Schorr’s 30 years as the organization’s executive director.
Schorr was recognized for his service with the announcement of the fund at Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy’s “Justice Through the Decades” concluding 50th anniversary celebration April 19, at the Mint Museum Randolph.
Early in his tenure, Schorr made funding diversification a priority to stabilize the organization’s work to pursue justice. This strategy allowed Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy to make the tough, but necessary, decision to stop accepting federal Legal Services Corporation funding in 2002.
The decision was controversial, but the choice was clear: Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy would continue serving people in need, while fighting the root causes of poverty.
Today, thanks to Schorr’s stewardship, Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy draws from more than 40 funding sources to annually serve thousands of people in the Charlotte region.
The “Ken Fund” will ensure this legacy continues by going on to serve as a flexible, stable source of funding to support Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy’s integral community services.
