Access to Justice

Access to Justice Campaign
Since 1989 the Access to Justice Campaign has raised more than $2.5 million for legal services to the low-income population from members of the Mecklenburg County Bar. The joint campaign with Legal Aid of North Carolina is one of our major sources of revenue for our programs.

Partners in Justice for the Campaign
Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (LSSP) and Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) work together to provide a full range of legal services to a full range of clients. The Access to Justice Campaign provides an opportunity for the legal community in Mecklenburg County to partner with us financially to make sure access to justice is a reality.

Need for Financial Assistance
Each year we face an increased need from our clients.

The Access to Justice Campaign gives low-income people in Charlotte access to the justice system through the legal work of LSSP and LANC. These two agencies are committed to serving the civil legal needs of those of the more than 87,000 adults and children living in poverty right here in our own community. They help families in need of assistance with legal issues such as domestic violence, denial of benefits, including Medicaid and Medicare, unsafe housing conditions, consumer fraud, and eviction and foreclosure.

These organizations truly do have a profoundly positive impact on the lives of the clients they serve and the entire community. To continue their work, they need the financial support of every member of the Bar. The most effective means of supporting legal services for the poor is through your donation to the Access to Justice Campaign.

Thank you to those firms and individuals participating in the 2008/09 Campaign. The campaign raised more than $366,000 in gifts and pledges from more than 650 attorneys. We look forward to this participation again in 2008/2009.
