Immigrant Justice Program Attorney
Abell received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in New York City after earning her B.A. magna cum laude in international relations and German from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. During her time in law school, she served as a legal intern with Equality Now in Kenya to identify and address family law codes that did not comply with countries’ international treaty obligations and also interned with the Brooklyn DA Sex Crimes Bureau. After graduating she went on to work as a fellow for the Global Justice Center in New York City where she focused on gender-based crimes and international human rights law. Before joining LSSP, she served as a family and immigration law attorney for St. Cloud Area Legal Services in Minnesota and STEPS to End Family Violence in New York City. While living in New York, she also volunteered with the City University of New York’s Citizenship Now! Program assisting people seeking citizenship. Abell joined LSSP in July 2014.
Abell enjoys working in immigration court and brings to LSSP her extensive research and legal experience in gender-based violence, human trafficking, family law, human rights and immigration. In addition to being proficient in German and Spanish, in 2011, Abell competed on Jeopardy where she placed second on the game show. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing the flute, scuba diving and traveling.
