Cernuda received his B.A.’s in political science and Spanish from Wabash College in Indiana. During his time as a student, he also participated in American University’s Washington Semester Program in American Politics. His previous positions include serving as a Congressional intern in Washington, D.C., and as a regulatory review intern for the Chicago Department of Buildings. His most recent position had him working alongside LSSP’s Navigators as a bilingual customer representative with Cognosante during the inaugural health insurance marketplace’s open enrollment period. Cernuda joined LSSP in April 2014.
Cernuda sees his role as an advocate as an opportunity to help individuals obtain a greater degree of security through affordable health care while also growing the local networks of organizations that play a crucial role in this pursuit. He also sees his work as a chance to help craft Charlotte into a welcoming place for everyone, taking an active role in local legislative politics and investing in young people. He regularly volunteers in the Charlotte community as a mentor to college and high school students as well for Latin American Coalition as a Naturalization Drive volunteer. His interests include immersing in new cultures, working out, reading and pondering life with friends
